No brooms standing on end here....I'm too busy riding mine around town.
No brooms standing on end here.....Myth buster Aimee has debunked everyone's worst fear: The possibility that your broom may do all the housework for you....

Ahhhh, the sweet smell of spring. The regrowth and rebirth of flora and fauna. When I think of spring I think of 'Tulip Trees' in full bloom, Hyacinth fragrance filling the air, baby bunnies hopping around, and Easter Egg Hunt advertisement's out the wazoo. What is a 'wazoo' by the way? The last thing I think of is balancing my broom on a hardwood floor. Heck, I can't tell you the last time I even touched my broom (for cleaning purposes that is). Better yet, balancing an egg to stand straight up. I thought eggs were only good for poaching, right?
Apparently I was wrong. It seems that the new phenom now a days is to balance your broom and or your eggs and then to blame it on The Equinox. Now, let me confess I'm a bit of a facebook junkie and when I began to see numerous postings about broom balancing, I became a bit intrigued. You see, I'm a 100% type A personality. Besides being a self-proclaimed perfectionist, I don't like to be out done. An yes, in this case I was being outdone by broom balancers and egg experts all over town. This being the case, I then decided to do a little research on the subject. Let me enlighten you-you'll sleep much better, I promise.
First, I don't claim to be sitting around splitting atoms, but I do know this: Rumor has it that during an Equinox the planets have aligned and gravitational pull will allow you your broom (or egg) to stand upright. I have terrible news people: You're all wrong.

You see an Equinox will not take place until the 20th of March at approximately 5:14 Universal Time. Last time I checked which was about an our ago, we have about 7 days until that happens. The pull of the moon, planets or anything else for that matter have nothing to do with it.
The word equinox is derived from 2 Latin words meaning “equal night.” The spring and fall equinoxes are the only dates with equal daylight and dark as the Sun crosses the celestial equator. At the equinoxes, the tilt of Earth relative to the Sun is zero, which means that Earth’s axis neither points toward nor away from the Sun. However, the tilt of Earth relative to its plane of orbit, called the ecliptic plane, is always about 23.5 degrees.

A broom can stand by itself because the center of gravity is directly above the edge on which it balances. The bristles are soft enough to spread out a bit at the contact point with the floor and provide a stable base to support the handle and allow the broom to balance.
All I know, is that I sure hope the owner of on Manchester in Brentwood reads this, because I'm fairly certain by now that it has gotten back to him that a woman in a party dress with 6 inch heels on was balancing brooms in the back left side of his store. This is where the brooms are located in case you're wondering, priced very well might I add.
So in other words, if the moon's gravitational pull was strong enough to cause brooms to stand up all over town, then they'd be floating and heck maybe even sweeping the floor, or atleast alleviating what seems to be the most rigorous activities my daughter has done in years, which is picking the broom up and sweeping her hardwood bedroom floor.
Now onto tracking animal behavior, I have to wake my son and daughter up for school....until next time.
