There’s Ice Now!

If you have been keeping up with Brentwood Ice Arena maintenance shutdown, it is time to rejoice. The almost always awesome ice is taking shape.
Donnie Blomker, Jimmy Pearson and Chad Wollmershauser have been “laying water” with a garden hoses and small fire hoses for days. When the ice was built to over ¼ inch thick, the team sprays water-soluble white paint over the whole ice floor. It may look like freshly fallen snow, but it turns everything in it’s path a milky white.
After the paint freezes, more water is layed. Then Jason Holmes and Matt Seelbach join them on the ice to lay in the mesh that becomes hockey rink marking. This takes time because the process requires gently mopping water into the mesh, making sure it all freezes in the correct spot, no crooked lines or out of symmetry face-off circles will do! Tank sprayers are then used to gently lay more water over the lines, circles and goal crease before the team can lay more water with the hose.

Sounds tedious? It is! But, it is worth the effort to produce great ice.
