Maplewood police are collaborating with the US Drug Enforcement Administration to safely discard potentially dangerous controlled substances, notes a police department news release.

This program is a national initiative designed to provide the public with an opportunity to dispose of their unwanted prescription medications. Expired, unused, or unwanted controlled substances in our homes are a potential source of supply that fuel abuse and are an unacceptable risk to the public health and safety.
A police officer will collect the medication and forward it to the Drug Enforcement Administration for disposal. The service is free and anonymous.
