SSM Urgent Care is designed for patients with minor medical needs who cannot wait to be seen by their primary care doctor and whose condition does not warrant an emergency room (ER) visit. Urgent care visits are generally faster and less expensive than an ER visit. Patients may visit ssmhealth.com/urgent for a list of conditions that are appropriate for seeking treatment at SSM Urgent Care. The center also provides immunizations and other non-emergent medical services.

The new center operates under the medical direction of a board-certified physician and is staffed by experienced nurse practitioners. It features on-site X-ray and laboratory capabilities. Patients may also choose to use the online check-in system to reduce waits once they arrive at the center. They can check in at ssmhealth.com/urgent. In addition, SSM Urgent Care uses electronic medical records that allow for a patient’s important medical information and histories to be shared instantaneously between the center and SSM Medical Group physicians.

Nancy Terveer, executive director of ambulatory services for SSM Health Care – St. Louis, said that SSM Urgent Care strives to operate as an extension of physicians’ offices, providing care when physicians are not available. “We are here to help meet demand for health care services in our community and to provide an alternative to the emergency room for non-life-threatening conditions,” she said. “The average ER visit lasts more than three hours. SSM Urgent Care visits generally take less than an hour and can cost considerably less than an ER visit.”
