What Maddenfest Really Means...

Brentwood is an interesting city. It is a place with an interesting past. It is a city with a bright future.

Each year, a celebration is planned for the residents of Brentwood. Understanding how the festival began is a big part of understanding Brentwood. In 1979, Brentwood celebrated the 60th Anniversary of its incorporation in style. Co-chairmen Gene Dodel and Lorraine Krewson worked with a host of businesses and organizations throughout the city to provide the residents with fun, exciting events each month during the year. A grand festival was planned to honor Thomas Madden, one of the original founders of the city. Chaired by Jim Brigham, the festival committee set the date for the first annual Maddenfest celebration—September 3, 1979. Since the first Maddenfest at the Goff Moll American Legion Post, come rain of shine, there has always been an annual festival in Brentwood.

Until her retirement in 1996, Lorraine Krewson chaired the Maddenfest event committee. Though the name of the festival was changed to Brentwood Days in 1995, the goals have remained the same. Ms. Krewson’s goal was to unite the past and present for a fun weekend in September. Her tireless efforts, along with the hard work of many others, guaranteed that people who started out in Brentwood could come back to an annual event that would keep good memories alive. With Ms. Krewson’s passing in 2012, the name of the event was returned to Maddenfest, in her honor.
