Fighting Senior Hunger

Mid-East Area Agency on Aging (MEAAA) ~ South County Senior Resource Center is participating in the annual “National March for Meals Campaign”.

This annual event sponsored by Meals on Wheels Association of America is intended to generate public awareness, recruit new volunteers and increase local fundraising for this important senior meal program.  One component of this event is called Mayors for Meals Day in which mayors or other elected officials deliver meals in their city to homebound seniors.  This year Mayors for Meals Day will be held March 20, 2013.  State Representative Bob Burns and St. Louis County Executive Charlie Dooley will deliver meals for MEAAA’s South County Senior Resource Center.  The center has 7 home delivered meal routes, serving 131 homebound seniors.  Representative Burns and County Executive Dooley will ride along with the center’s regular delivery volunteer to deliver meals.  In 2012, over 1500 elected officials participated in the Mayors for Meals event. This is a unique platform to raise awareness about the issue of senior hunger.

For more information about the home delivered meal program or how you can help support seniors in your area, please contact The South County Senior Resource Center (314) 631-8698
