The Lemay Housing Partnership, Inc was among five area non-profits reeiving grant awards from he Federal Home Loan Bank System’s Affordable Housing Program at a grant award program February 11, 2013 at the University of Missouri St. Louis.
St. Louis County Executive Charlie A. Dooley joined Congressman William L. Clay in announcing $2 million in new affordable housing grants through the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines’ Affordable Housing Program (AHP).
Lemay Housing Inc. received a $300,000 grant sponsored by First Missouri Credit Union. The agency will use the funding to assist in making both interior and exterior repairs to 30 homes. The grant will be leveraged with funds from St. Louis County Port Authority and Missouri Housing Trust Fund and provide up to $10,000 in assistance. Repairs include major work on roofs, plumbing and electrical systems and HVAC equipment. Smaller repairs, usually performed by volunteers, include interior painting, window caulking and concrete restoration.

“The Lemay Housing Partnership provides an extremely valuable service to seniors and our low-income neighbors. The repairs and services received through this program enable them to remain in their homes without the burden of expensive repairs,” County Executive Charlie A. Dooley said at the awards program.
Rita Moore, a Lemay resident for 26 years, is a former recipient of funds through Lemay Housing Partnership.

“I am so glad I had the partnership to help me out with expenses I couldn’t afford like replacing my electrical box inside and out and major plumbing repairs. Because of the program I was also connected to the weatherization program and they cleaned my furnace and did some work to my roof. I live by myself and was to the point I couldn’t afford to do anything more,” Moore said.
