Oakville Native Receives College Basketball Award

Emily Nickels of Oakville, Mo., received the “Most Dedicated” award for the women’s basketball team at the St. Louis College of Pharmacy Athletic Awards Banquet on April 7.  Nickels, a first-year pharmacy student, was the
starting point guard for the Lady Eutectics for the 2012-13 season.

The daughter of Mike and Sue Nickels of Oakville, Nickels is a 2012 graduate of Notre Dame High School where she made the first team all-district basketball and was a scholar athlete.

In its 20th year of existence, the St. Louis College of Pharmacy Athletic Program is a member of the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (KIAC) in the National
Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and includes volleyball, basketball, cross country, track and field, and tennis.

The College’s mascot – the Eutectic – is a common term in pharmacy describing the scientific process of two solids being combined to form a liquid. It is the perfect
metaphor for the St. Louis College of Pharmacy’s Athletic Program – combining  athletics and a demanding academic program.

Founded in 1864, St. Louis College of Pharmacy is the fourth oldest and 10th largest college of pharmacy in America. The College integrates the liberal arts and
sciences with a professional curriculum and introductory and advanced practice experiences where students can develop expertise and become leaders in the profession and their communities. Beginning in 2014, the seven-year curriculum leading to a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree will also include a Bachelor of Science. The College admits students directly from high school and accepts
