Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque Offers Opens House to Community for Jubilee Celebration
Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque Parish has been celebrating their 50 year Jubilee in Oakville and had an Open House with a twist. They invited neighboring churches from the Oakville community to visit, tour and enjoy a free spaghetti dinner with savory desserts prepared by the parishioners.
“We wanted to extend our arms of fellowship to the community as our way of letting our neighbors know that all are welcome in our house” commented Monsignor Norbert Ernst, Pastor at Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque. He sent a letter to the pastors of the various churches in the Oakville Christian community inviting them and their congregations to come by for a tour and fellowship by offering a wonderful and free Spaghetti & Meatball dinner, salad, bread, and a wide selection of delicious desserts!! “Breaking bread” with our fellow Christian neighbors was something we thought celebrated our common call to be followers and disciples of the Lord.”
The guests were greeted by members of the Parish Council at strategic locations on the campus: the church, the school foyer, the gym foyer, the Parish Center, and the athletic fields. Eighth graders were guides from one location to another and the final destination was the meal prepared by parishioner volunteers. Charlie Marinaro, Chairperson of the Parish Council summed up the event, “ The parish came together by baking desserts, making the spaghetti and meatball dinner, greeting visitors and providing an overall great day for those who attended”.
