Queeny Park Ice Rink was full of anticipation tonight as Mehlville faced off against Priory for the Founders Cup. Mehlville was coming off their two wins against Whitfield, while Priory beat St. Marys in the semi-finals. The stands were loaded on both sides. Mehlville's cheerleaders had the help of a drummer to keep the crowd and players spirits high as the puck dropped.
Mehlville is put on the board first by senior Jake Schaefer with a short handed goal. Just a bit later, Joey Parker scores a power play goal with a slap shot from just outside the blue line. Mehlville is up by 2 now. Then with 4:48 left in the first, Priory slips one in. Shortly after on a power play, Priory gets another, making it a 2 - 2 tie. With two minutes left in the first, both teams take penalties. The first period ends with Mehlville having 9 shots on goal to Priory's 6.
The second period starts with Mehlville short handed for 25 seconds. Penaties are taken by both sides during the second period with both goalies making fantastic saves. Both teams were trying oh so hard to get a goal but just not able to get past the goalies. Neither team scored, so the 2nd period ended with the game still tied 2 -2, with shots on goal: Mehlville 11, Priory 12.

The boys go off the ice for 10 minutes while the zamboni comes out leaving the third period to start with some pretty wet ice. Mehlville's goalie, Nick Williamson makes two huge saves early on in the third, keeping it a tied game. With 12:45 minutes left in the third, Mehlville goes on the power play. Jake Schaefer scores, putting Mehlville in the lead 3 -2. Then with 8:41 left in the game, Mehlville gets a double minor penalty putting Priory on the power play for four minutes. The Mehlville team does a fantastic job of killing the power play and before it is over, Priory calls a time out. With 1:49 left on the clock, Mehlville calls a time out. Everyone in the crowd is standing. Then with a little over a minute left, Priory pulls their goalie, but it is not enough and Mehlville wins 3 - 2. Way to go Panthers!
