The "Romantic Rhine" Day-by-Day with Simply River Cruises

Here is an overview of my recent "Romantic Rhine"  river cruise on the Avalon Felicity.

Day 1: Overnight flight to  Zurich.

Day 2: "Romantic Rhine" river cruise, my husband and I arrived in Zurich, Switzerland without interruption.  A little tired from the overnight flight, we are escorted to the Movenpick Hotel, (pictured), where we are greeted by our friendly local host and much needed refreshments.  Today we are offered an opportunity to relax in the hotel hospitality room, awaiting transfer to the river boat later in the day, or visit Mt. Pilatus & Luzern, or a Zurich City Tour. 

We chose Mt. Pilatus & Luzern.  You'll notice me in the photos with the Swiss Alps in the background, atop Mt. Pilatus and yes, it was chilly. Be sure to have lunch on the peak, the soup and beer are delicious.  After our descent from the summit, we toured Luzern, a beautiful, impeccably clean lake town with medieval structures and charm.  If you are looking for a watch, this is the place to get it.

From Luzern we were shuttled to Basel in a comfortable bus, and unfortunately, I snoozed through most of the beautiful scenery we passed along the way, providing a good reason to plan a pre-night stay. We boarded the Avalon Felicity in Basel, had a much desired shower, participated in the mandatory safety exercise followed by cocktail reception and embarkation dinner.  (Yum). 

Tonight we turned in early since we were thoroughly worn out from our flight, so we could awake refreshed and adjusted to our new time zone, ready to see the sights along the Rhine River.  View our photo journal of Zurich, Luzern, and Basel.  Enjoy!
