Write a 2012 Personal Mission Statement

Every school, business and charitable foundation has a detailed mission statement written for all to see in the introductory pages of their newsletters, brochures or handbooks.  It is often located on the first page, at the building entrance or stated in a catchy jingle. 

The mission statement is the basic objective of the business that must be achieved for it to be successful and prosperous.  Without a basic objective, quantifying success and prosperity is impossible.

Creating a resolution for 2012 is another term for an objective.  Many Mehlville-Oakville residents have resolutions.  It is time to write a mission statement to compliment that resolution and see it come to fruition. Here are two examples:

Google:  Google's mission is to organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful.

The Make A Wish Foundation: We grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy.

Two steps to a clear and concise personal mission statement:

1. State your goal using as few words as possible.

2. Write one sentence containing the most honest and important reason, which inspired this goal.

Tip: Be careful and thoughtful when it comes to sharing this personal statement.  Share only with those who will support it no matter the 'economy' or 'state of the union.' 

It is in the toughest of times that accountability matters the most to the author of the mission statement.  A good friend already knows this!
