Cantaloupe: A Calm, Cool and Collected Kind of Guy

This week’s Pooch of the Week has a name that makes people want to run and hide because of recent news reports. Fear not, though. While cantaloupes in 18 states have caused illness and even death, Cantaloupe the dog has been reported to cause happy thoughts and smiles!

Cantaloupe is the kind of pooch that goes with the flow. He has this relaxed attitude that immediately calms even the most stressed-out person. TWB staff member that picked him up from Stray Rescue was rushing as usual. Usually the dogs run as quickly as they can out the door and jump into the car. Cantaloupe, however, took his time and made sure to sniff each flower on the way out. He is good at reminding people to slow down, take your time and enjoy life’s simple pleasures.

Cantaloupe, a 3-year-old Shepherd mix, took his time getting to know all the dogs and the new environment at The Watering Bowl. It wasn’t that he was scared, because he certainly was not. In fact, his tail was wagging the whole time. However, he did not feel the need to immediately be out there running around and rastlin’ with the pack. In typical Cantaloupe fashion, he could not be rushed.

About mid-day, Cantaloupe starting showing his new friends his play bow, signaling that it was time to get frisky. From that moment on, he spent the rest of the afternoon running around and mixing it up with his new playmates. He then proceeded to sleep the whole car ride back to the shelter.

Cantaloupe was such a good boy at TWB, and even got several compliments from clients who spotted him playing when they were picking up their own dog. He also loves to learn new things. He has mastered walking on a leash, and currently is learning what toys are and how to play with them. Hopefully soon he will have lots of toys to play with, because he sure deserves it!
