Thanksgiving is right around the corner, so it’s only fitting to give thanks to all those who help the abused and neglected animals of St. Louis. I am lucky enough to go down to Stray Rescue each Tuesday and see firsthand all the love, care and devotion that is given to those pooches. Each Tuesday I leave there with a feeling of immense gratitude. Thank you to each and every one of you who have made a difference in the life of an abused or neglected animal.
Unfortunately, there are still many abused and neglected dogs that are still waiting for their happy ending. This week’s “Pooch of the Week” makes it easy to want to help. Looking for a dog to run and play with during the day and snuggle next to at night? Then Dukey Houser is your guy! Dukey was named after the child doctor made famous by Neil Patrick Harris. Like his namesake, Dukey loves to learn. Who knows, with the right family, Dukey could be competing at the Purina Incredible Dog Challenge in no time. The sky is the limit for Dukey!
Dukey, a small, 3-year-old, Shepherd mix was thrilled to get out of the shelter and spend the day at TWB. He is the kind of pooch that loves to snuggle, and really wanted to spend some quality time on TWB staff member’s lap while she was driving to The Watering Bowl. He settled with cuddling with Scruff, a 13-pound Poodle mix and Stray Rescue alum, in the back seat of the car.

Dukey spent the first part of the day at TWB exploring the place. There were so many new faces, and Dukey was eager to meet them all. His absolute favorite part of his day, however, was the couch TWB has outside. Yes, there is a couch for the dogs to lounge around on, and Dukey took full advantage of it. From time to time, the TWB staff would look at him with his eyes closed and a look of contentment on his face. He looked like he had died and gone to heaven.
Dukey is currently staying at the Stray Rescue shelter on Pine Street, and is anxiously awaiting his forever family to come into his life. Dukey would make a great addition to any family. He gets along well with other dogs, but also wouldn’t complain being an only child. For more information on this cutie patootie, visit Stray Rescue.
