Jefferson College Band Concert May 7 - Four Corners of the World

The Four Corners of the World: Jefferson College 50th Anniversary Community Band Concert May 7


 


As part of Jefferson College’s community-wide 50th anniversary celebration, the Music Department will present its final Concert Band program of the school year on Tuesday, May 7, at 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Theatre on the Hillsboro campus.

Directed by Joseph Pappas, with Roger Barrentine as announcer, the program will include a variety of selections representing musical styles, cultures and regions from around the globe. The concert will include “The Vanished Army March” (English); “Deir’ In De” (Irish); “Variations on an African Hymnsong” (African); “Eine Kleine Yiddishe Ragmusik” (Jewish); “Trombrero” (Mexican) featuring the trombone trio of Makayla Gardner, Matt Guelbert and Corey Wright; and “Greek Folk Song Suite” (Greek).


 


The Four Corners of the World concert will also include “A Musical Fantasy” (Netherlands) directed by guest conductor Tomas Poshak, who is a former band director at Ladue and Kirkwood high schools and now serves as the assistant director of the St. Louis Wind Symphony and conductor of the University City Community Band.


 


The program is suitable for all ages and is part of the college’s new PACE (Performing Arts and Cultural Enrichment) series and is one of many activities the college hosts each year in connection with its mission of community outreach and diverse educational experiences for residents of all ages and backgrounds.
