For the Garden Unveils Last Five Favorite Products
This is part two in a two-part series of great gardening products.
In my last column I reviewed five of my Top 10 favorite products. This week I’ve listed my remaining five favorite products below. As you read this please keep in mind that you don’t need to buy every single thing I’ve listed here to have a great garden. My hope is that once you decide what areas of your garden/yard you need to address you will have some tired and true products to help you out!
- Round Up—Weeds are ugly and once they’ve grown above ground Round Up is their worst enemy. To use this product you spray the weed directly. Weeds will yellow and wilt within hours and will be completely killed in 1-2 weeks. Use carefully … Round Up will kill whatever it hits and if you accidently spray a plant it WILL die. Also, be sure not to use this if it’s raining or about to rain … much of the benefit will be washed away and you’ll have to repeat the process.2.
- Preen—This is a great product to use as you are planting. Sprinkle generously around flower beds. It will prevent any weeds that are not already growing. Preen will not treat any weeds above the surface so it is a product to be used in conjunction with something like Round Up. You will save yourself a lot of time and hassle by using Preen to treat the weeds that will almost surely occur down the line. I use this on all my gardens and mulched areas.
- Weed B Gon Max—This is a great product to use on weeds that are growing in your lawn. It will kill the weeds (dandelions, clovers, chickweed, etc.) while leaving your lawn unharmed. You will see results within 24 hours.
- Sevin—Weeds are annoying, but bugs can do a lot of damage. Ready to use Sevin kills more than 100 different varieties of insect pests. It’s great to use on vegetable pests, residential area pests and ornamental pests (including the dreaded Japanese beetle.) To use I simply spray the affected area until Sevin is dripping off the leaves.
- Triple Action Plus RTU—This is a broad spectrum insecticide, fungicide and miticide. Basically it controls insects, diseases and mites on vegetables, fruits, nuts, herbs, spices, roses, flowers and shrubs around the house. To use apply at the first sign of insects/mites. To control pests like aphids, Japanese beetles and variety of other pests use on a 7-14 day schedule. If the insect population is heavy maintain a 7 day schedule. Spray all plant surfaces including the undersides of leaves until the area is wet, but not dripping.
As always, please remember how important it is to keep you gardens and lawns hydrated as it begins to heat up outside. Without proper watering none of these products will do you any good. If you have any questions about the products listed please feel free to contact me.
