Good Morning Mehlville: Stray Rescue Happy Hour Tonight

Good morning, Mehlville!

Welcome to our new column that will help you get through the weekday. Every Monday through Friday at 6 a.m., we'll tell you everything ranging from gas prices and traffic alerts to events around town and stories we're working on. Lastly, we'll sign off with something fun to kickstart your morning.

• Weather: That rain is staying as there's a 20 percent chance of showers before 1 p.m. The sun will come out later, with a high around 86 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.  
  
  

• Gas: The Union and Greenpark Phillips 66 is at $3.37, and everyone else in the area is at $3.39, according to stlouisgasprices.com. 
  
  
• Tonight, from 5 until 8 p.m., join Stray Rescue at and help local animals while having a drink. A $20 fee gets you appetizers and two free drinks. There will also be a 50/50 raffle and silent auction. Dogs are even welcome until 8 p.m.
  
   
• For Fun: Things to do in an elevator (via ajokeaday.com):

When there's only one other person in the elevator, tap them on the shoulder and then pretend it wasn't you.

Push the buttons and pretend they give you a shock. Smile, and go back for more.

Move your desk into the elevator and whenever anyone gets on, ask if they have an appointment.

Lay down the twister mat and ask people if they would like to play.

Pretend you are a flight attendant and review emergency procedures and exits with the passengers.

When the doors close, announce to the others, "It's okay, don't panic, they open again!"

Crack open your briefcase or purse, and while peering inside, ask, "Got enough air in there?"

Stand silently and motionless in the corner, facing the wall, without getting off.
