Help Joplin Dogs at The Watering Bowl

Find out how you can help Joplin's pets and see this week's Pooch of the Week.

Before talking about this week's featured furball, The Watering Bowl (TWB) is collecting donations to take to Joplin, MO after an EF-5 tornado ripped through the town, destroying homes and businesses. Here's what they're doing and how you can help:

-TWB will donate $1 for every new Facebook fan on its page (up to $1,000). Before Thursday, log on to Facebook and 'Like' The Watering Bowl. They've already raised more than $300 for the Joplin Humane Society.

-When you drop off your pup for a visit, donate money in the collection jar, which will also go to the Joplin Humane Society.

-If you're short on cash, the Humane Society needs supplies for those pets affected by the tornado. Drop off fans, extension cords, toys, leashes, towels, blankets, bleach and other cleaning supplies to The Watering Bowl at 7409 South Lindbergh before Friday.

Watering Bowl staff will be taking all donations down to Joplin Saturday. They'll be spending the entire day there, volunteering where necessary and welcome anyone to join them.

"The Humane Society needs any help they can get, and that is why we are reaching out. Like the people of Joplin, so many animals had their world turned upside down, and (it) is heartbreaking," said co-owner Jeremy King in an email. "It is easy to sit around, do nothing and continue with our daily lives, but we can’t do that knowing there are animals out there that we can help. We can’t do it alone, and that is why we need help."

On to the pooch...

This week’s Pooch of the Week goes to another St. Louis Pet Rescue dog, Tanner. Tanner is Petey’s foster brother, and like , he is a playful little boy who loves to have a good time.

Tanner is an adorable 1 to 2 year old Border Collie Mix.  He is a happy-go-lucky pooch that loves tennis balls. Seriously, give him one and he is in heaven!

Tanner has really blossomed while at his foster home. When he first arrived at St. Louis Pet Rescue, he was still going through that rebellious, childish phase. He enjoyed chewing and wasn’t quite sold on the whole house-training idea. Turns out, Tanner just needed some love, attention and a little guidance. He sure is a smart pooch, because almost immediately those behaviors diminished. Today, Tanner listens and is a super, well-behaved pooch.

Tanner got to come play at The Watering Bowl last week and did great. From the get go, he was curious and ready to explore. He spent the entire day roaming around and playing with all of his new friends.

Tanner would make a great addition to any family. He does well around children, finds cats very interesting, enjoys going on car rides and will never turn down a belly rub. For more information on Tanner, check out St. Louis Pet Rescue.
