MoDOT Closes Lanes on Interstates 64 and 44 in St. Louis City this Weekend

In St. Louis City, all lanes on eastbound Interstate 64 will close from Jefferson to the Poplar Street Bridge starting at 8 p.m. tonight. The interstate will reopen by 3 p.m., Sunday, in time for the U2 concert held at Busch Stadium. Oakville residents should use I-55 as alternate routes this weekend during the closure. Motorists heading to the concert need to get downtown early and allow extra time for your commute.

Crews will perform earthquake retrofit work during this interstate closure. They will make repairs on the bridge's eastbound driving surface. The work has to be done this weekend to stay on schedule, which is part of an on-going process to maintain the bridges along I-64 and strengthen them to withstand an earthquake.

Two left lanes on the eastbound Poplar Street Bridge also will close starting at 8 p.m. until 3 p.m. Sunday.

Two right lanes on westbound Poplar Street Bridge will close starting at 7 p.m. until 3 p.m. Sunday.

Crews will perform bridge deck repairs and painting work. MoDOT strongly urges motorists to use alternate routes to get to into downtown, such as the Eads, McKinley or Martin Luther King bridges or to use the Interstate 270/255.

Various lanes on both eastbound and westbound Interstate 44 at Jamieson Avenue also will close from 7 p.m. until 5 a.m. Monday. I-44 will remain open during these lane closures. Crews will remove the driving surface on the Jamieson Bridge to begin the bridge deck replacement project. Motorists are urged to use Interstate 44 to Hampton to detour around the bridge closure.

Two lanes on southbound I-270 will be closed this weekend, beginning at 8 p.m. until 10 a.m. Monday. Crews are making bridge repairs on two bridges on southbound I-270 between I-44 and Gravois Road. Motorists can use Route 141 heading south this weekend as an alternate route.

Traffic on southbound I-270 will be split into three left lanes and one right through lanes open after this weekend’s work, with reduced speed limits and lane widths.

Oakville residents should be aware of the following ongoing closures:

  ·    I-55, St. Louis City, Delor Street across I-55 is closed for bridge replacement. 

  ·    I-55, St. Louis City, Holly Hills across I-55 is closed for bridge replacement. 

  ·    I-64, St. Louis City, eastbound 11th Street exit ramp closed weekdays 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

  ·    Grand Ave, St. Louis City, closed from I-64 to Chouteau by St. Louis City until mid 2012.
