Mom's Talk: The Casey Anthony Verdict
Our Mom's Council weighs in on the verdict that is being called the biggest not guilty verdict in America since the O.J. Simpson trial.

This week we asked our Mom's Council what they thought about Casey Anthony being acquitted of murdering her daughter, Caylee, 3 years ago.
Was there enough evidence to convict beyond a reasonable doubt? Is the emotional outlook of the trial and Casey's actions after Caylee was missing clouding judgment about the facts of the case? Do you think mothers will view this verdict differently than someone without a child?
We welcome readers to comment on this polarizing subject.

I did not follow the trial completely. Not seeing the case I cannot tell if there was enough evidence to convict Casey. I think it is sad that a little girl is dead and no one know what happened to her. I do agree that any mother would view this differently that someone without a child.

I think the entire country is stunned—mother or not. I spent a few weeks one summer sitting on the jury of a murder trial. It is an honor and a privilege to be allowed to participate in our system in such a capacity—but the weight of burden is heavy in determining the fate of another person's life.
As a nation, I feel we have to stand behind the jury's decision because the rest of us were not there. We do not have all the information they were given every day for hours on end. Indeed, it is up to the prosecution to prove to a panel of 12 peers beyond a shadow of a doubt that the accused is guilty. For this case, there is an Ultimate Judge. Ms. Anthony will have to live with that reality forever.

Sorry, I did not follow the case either. However, I think what Karin had to say was very wise and I appreciate her perspective on the responsibility placed on a jury.
