No Stopping Senior Complex Construction, Lawyer Says

John King, the lawyer representing the Ohio-based group building a senior housing complex on Telegraph Road in Oakville, says his clients have no plan to stop construction.

Builders expect to complete the first story on Telegraph's first three-story building by the time the St. Louis County Planning and Zoning Commission make a final decision on whether the group can keep building, King told the commission at a meeting Monday night.

"We will continue to build this development until we are told to stop..." King began when he was interrupted by the hundreds of Oakville neighbors behind him who began to yell,

"STOP!"

King waited for the crowd to quiet and began again, "We will continue to build this development until we are told to stop by a court of legal jurisdiction."

After hearing from King, his client National Church Residences and dozens of Oakville residents, the commission asked for a non-binding vote from the audience, to gauge how participants feel about the housing complex.

Twelve people voted for it, and 250 (calculated by estimating the maximum number of people allowed in the county government chambers) voted against.
