Oakville High Takes The Plunge
Students and teachers join Polar Plunge in raising more than $63,000 for Special Olympics.
The chilly February weather couldn’t stop 62 Oakville High students and teachers from jumping in the Creve Coeur Lake this weekend to raise money for the Special Olympics. Donned in their finest costume wear, the superheroes and Oakvillans took six different teams to dive in the event along with nearly 30 other community and school teams.
Last year four Oakville High students participated in the Polar Plunge, but this year StuCo student executive Emily Maag wanted to make the school’s presence bigger as a part of Oakville’s participation in Project Engage—a global youth service campaign. The idea was a hit, and Oakville raised more than $8,000 dollars to contribute to the freezing fundraiser.
