Oakville McDonalds Renovates, Gives Back to Police and Firefighters

The McDonald's on Telegraph Road celebrated its grand opening Friday.

Local police and firefighters are benefitting from the new Oakville , and it has nothing to do with Big Macs.

From Dec. 4 to Dec. 11, 25 cents from every value meal will be donated to the Backstoppers, an organization that helps the families of police and firefighters who died while serving.

"We wanted to take advantage of the grand opening crowd to help those we lost in service," Heather Bates said at the McDonald's grand opening celebration Friday morning. Bates is the local marketing representative for the store.

The McDonald's on Telegraph Road, which has been under construction for the last two months, completed its renovations this week.

Manager Angie Buscher said the new restaurant features more than 20 extra seats, better handicapped accessibility and includes bar seating with electrical outlets.

The PlayPlace was renovated as well, with more comfortable seating.

"The whole place is much more contemporary," Buscher said.

The restaurant also wants to be more active within the community.

"I think Oakville is a very involved community and we want to reach back out and help the schools," Buscher said. "I don't think they know what we can do for them in terms of parties and fundraisers."
