Patch has scouted out some beautiful local settings for the perfect picnic. The fare is up to you, but a suggestion is to stop by a local market like Kaya’s or Garavaglia’s for some unique treats to pack in your basket.

Bee Tree Park

A St. Louis County Park, Bee Tree is a beautiful spot for a picnic. Choose from outdoor tables or a sheltered facility, but be sure to call ahead about reservations and restrictions.

Barbecue pits are nearby the tables, so cook if you must. A serene fishing pond is a popular attraction at Bee Tree.

Cliff Cave Park

806 Cliff Cave Road, Oakville

Enjoy a riverside table at Cliff Cave Park. Enjoy a relaxing meal as you watch the Mississippi roll by on its way to the Gulf of Mexico. The riverside picnic area at the end of the road is sheltered, so if it sprinkles a little or if the sun is too hot, your picnic will still be perfect. Call the park for details.

 

Sylvan Springs Park

300 Halsey Road, Mehlville

With four large sheltered picnic buildings and seven official picnic sites, Sylvan Springs Park has plenty of options for dining and relaxing outdoors. Reservations are required, so call ahead if you want the best spot.

 

Jefferson Barracks County Park

251 Cy Road, Mehlville

Bask in the history of the Jefferson Barracks Park you enjoy a repast with friends and family. In honor of the Civil War Anniversary, you may want to do a period meal. A little research and your meal can become a memorable history lesson. Try to stay authentic.

 

Suson Park

6059 Wells Road, Oakville

Four official picnic sites and two large shelters offer a variety of options for picnickers. There is plenty to do after your meal at Suson Park. Fishing, hiking and a petting zoo are available. There are some restrictions, so call ahead.
