Russ Carnahan Speaks with MHS Freshmen

In honor of Constitution Day, one of Missouri's reps spoke with Mehlville students.

Third District Congressional Representative Russ Carnahan spoke with 25  freshmen Friday to celebrate Constitution Day, held on Sept. 17. 

Kristen Dodd's American Government class participated in a video chat session with the Democrat.

"I think they (the students) were excited," Dodd said. "He did it last year and likes to make contact with the students. His office contacted me as well as other schools to bring information about the Constitution."

Carnahan gave a brief overview of the three branches of government and how the Constitution shaped the checks and balances system. 

He said the U.S. Constitution was not only the oldest Constitution still functioning in the world, but that it is also the shortest.

At the end of the presentation, students got to ask the representative about his job in Washington D.C.
