Whiz Kid’s Accomplishment: Received “Superior” in broadcast sports in the Sponsors of School Publications of Greater St. Louis’ March 2011 journalism conference.
Whiz Kid’s Key to Awesomeness: Jack Romine’s love for recreational sports such as tennis, basketball, soccer, and baseball led him to become interested in the field of sports broadcasting. He participated in the inaugural broadcasting class at OHS and really enjoyed it. His feature about the OHS girls’ softball team winning State led to a “Superior” award at the journalism conference held in March.
“The atmosphere at the competition was really exciting,” Romine said. “Getting there was tough, though—I had to miss a day of school,” he added.
In addition to sports, Romine is interested in other classic doctrines as well. In fact, although many students dread history because they deem it boring, Romine is quite the opposite. He loves his history class because “it’s actually really interesting.” He hopes to become a history teacher or work in the field of journalism someday.
