Whiz Kid’s Accomplishment: Received “Excellent” in broadcast sports in the Sponsors of School Publications of Greater St. Louis’ March 2011 journalism conference.
Whiz Kid’s Key to Awesomeness: Jerica Drago’s key to awesomeness is, without a doubt, confidence. She has no problem interviewing athletes and coaches, despite possible bias against her being a young woman in sports. Her segment about injuries plaguing the boys’ baseball varsity team this past year won excellent in the spring journalism conference.
“I have an idea, and I just run with it. I’m really determined, and I do what I want,” Drago said.
During her tenure at OHS, Drago also served as a teenage health consultant, participated in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and was the Captain of the Varsity Hockey Cheerleading team. What’s even more astonishing is that she worked as a bridal consultant at David’s Bridal while balancing all of her other activities.
Drago will be a freshman at Missouri Baptist University this fall, where she signed a letter of intent for cheerleading and intends to study communication and broadcasting.
