This week’s Whiz Kid is Ryan Becker, a third grader who can’t seem to put down his pencils and paper. When he isn’t creating award-winning artwork, he plays basketball and soccer for his school, Abiding Savior Lutheran.

Whiz Kid’s Accomplishment: Awarded a Blue Ribbon for the top 35 pieces in the St. Louis Symphony’s “Picture the Music” competition.
Whiz Kid’s Key to Awesomeness: Ryan Becker absolutely loves creating artwork—so much so that he’d rather draw than sit idle in front of the television or play video games.
“He’s always drawing and creating something,” Tricia Becker, Ryan’s mom, said.
Ryan Becker hopes to be an architect when he grows up, which is apparent in his numerous pictures of houses, planes and skyscrapers.
“I like drawing a lot because it’s fun. I taught myself how to do it by copying pictures I saw,” Ryan said.
Ryan Becker’s art talents led him to the top 35 in the region in the “Picture the Music” competition for his piece entitled “Royal Palace.” Contestants listened to a work by Tchaikovsky and then drew what the music looked like to them.
“The best part [of the competition] was having the pride of doing the artwork and then going onstage to receive my award,” Ryan said.
