Woman Battling Cancer Gives Back, Donates School Bus to the Salvation Army

Debb VincentΒ couldn't be prouder of her motherΒ Mary Lou Franklin.
Not only is she aΒ volunteer for the Salvation Army at the Gateway Citadel on Union Road, she recentlyΒ donated what Vincent described asΒ a "much needed" school bus to the organizationΒ for their programs.
"We're proud to say the least," she said.
Vincent said her motherΒ has lung cancer and though her treatment has been pretty successful.
"Her prognosis is two-to-three years," she said.Β
Vincent said herΒ grandson, which isΒ Franklin'sΒ great grandson, rides the "old and very worn out" bus often during summer programs so it gave the family a first-hand view of the need.
The new bus has three seat belts per seat and working brakes and air conditioning. Vincent said her mother found it for a great rate at Southern Bus and Mobility and handed the keys over immediately upon purchase.Β
"She is very proud and considers this one of her biggest achievements," she said.
