Woman Battling Cancer Gives Back, Donates School Bus to the Salvation Army

Debb Vincent couldn't be prouder of her mother Mary Lou Franklin.

Not only is she a volunteer for the Salvation Army at the Gateway Citadel on Union Road, she recently donated what Vincent described as a "much needed" school bus to the organization for their programs.

"We're proud to say the least," she said.

Vincent said her mother has lung cancer and though her treatment has been pretty successful.

"Her prognosis is two-to-three years," she said. 

Vincent said her grandson, which is Franklin's great grandson, rides the "old and very worn out" bus often during summer programs so it gave the family a first-hand view of the need.

The new bus has three seat belts per seat and working brakes and air conditioning. Vincent said her mother found it for a great rate at Southern Bus and Mobility and handed the keys over immediately upon purchase. 

"She is very proud and considers this one of her biggest achievements," she said.
