📰 News we're reading

1. Springfield residents still waiting for repairs four months after April hailstorm (ozarksfirst.com) — Months after April's record-setting hailstorm, many Springfield residents are still waiting for repairs to damaged roofs, siding and vehicles, even as total losses are estimated at $315 million. Local contractors describe being overwhelmed by demand and say insurance delays and out-of-pocket costs are slowing recovery from what is now Missouri's second-costliest hail event.

2. Springfield-Branson National Airport bids farewell to iconic carpet (ky3.com) — Springfield travelers will see a big change at Springfield-Branson National Airport as the beloved blue-and-green carpet has been replaced with a durable terrazzo floor that echoes the old design. Crews are wrapping up the 13‑month project this fall, and some of the old carpet tiles have already been turned into local art that raised thousands for Springfield Regional Arts Council programs.

3. On Your Side: Springfield landlords speak out in opposition of a possible right-to-counsel ordinance (ky3.com) — Springfield city leaders are considering new rental regulations, including a possible right-to-counsel ordinance that would guarantee legal representation for tenants facing eviction. Local housing advocates and landlord groups are sharply divided over whether such rules would protect vulnerable families or drive up rents, and City Council remains in early discussion with no vote scheduled yet.

4. Fire under investigation at west Springfield building linked to Hells Angels (sgfcitizen.org) — Firefighters quickly put out a Tuesday night blaze at a small building in west Springfield that has past ties to a local Hells Angels chapter, and no injuries were reported. Investigators are still determining the cause, while records show the West Avenue property has a long Springfield history, from baseball concessions at Memorial Stadium to a more recent sale listing.

5. Springfield neighbors face federal charges after four pounds of meth seized (sgfcitizen.org) — Two Springfield neighbors are jailed on federal drug charges after Greene County detectives and a SWAT team seized more than four pounds of suspected meth and about $20,000 in cash from homes just 700 feet apart. Investigators say the bust, highlighted in a Sheriff's Office social media post, removed tens of thousands of potential drug doses from circulation in local neighborhoods.
