1. Missouri K–12 District Cuts Ribbons on Two New Middle Schools -- Spaces4Learning (spaces4learning.com) — Springfield families now have two brand-new middle school campuses, with Pipkin Middle School and Reed Academy officially opened on Sept. 3 to replace century-old buildings. Funded by the Proposition S bond, the schools add modern classrooms, labs, arts spaces, and upgraded safety features, supporting International Baccalaureate programming at Pipkin and extensive fine and performing arts at Reed.
2. Springfield drivers to see overnight lane closures Sept. 14-17 (news-leader.com) — Drivers in Springfield should prepare for overnight lane reductions and ramp closures on U.S. 60 and 65 from Sept. 14–17, between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. Crews will be inspecting overhead truss signs near Sunshine, Campbell, and I-44, so expect delays, watch for work-zone signs, and consider alternate routes during those nights.
3. Springfield Art Museum receives $81,000 for community art initiative (ky3.com) — Springfield's Art Museum just secured more than $81,000 to keep art programs popping up around town while the main building is closed for renovations. Through the "Art is Everywhere" initiative, residents can expect mobile exhibits, hands-on crafts, and take-home projects as the museum works toward its 100th anniversary in 2028.
4. Springfield police drones can beat officers to some 911 calls (ky3.com) — Springfield police are now using rooftop-launched drones to reach some 911 calls faster than patrol cars, streaming live video to officers en route. The around-the-clock system, based at headquarters and Fire Station 9, focuses on high-priority incidents while officials stress limits on surveillance, data retention, and the technology's current capabilities.
5. 'Weird faces were exchanged'; Springfield man charged after allegedly pointing gun at victim downtown (ozarksfirst.com) — Springfield police have charged a local man after witnesses say he pointed a pistol at someone from a car near South Kimbrough Avenue and East Trafficway over the holiday weekend. Officers later found a reportedly stolen handgun in the vehicle, and the suspect is being held in Greene County Jail on a $10,000 bond.
