3. Springfield City Council approves bond funding for police and fire facility upgrades (ky3.com) — Springfield City Council has approved up to $9.2 million in bond funding to build a new west-side fire station, buy a fire truck, and create a consolidated police evidence facility. Police say current evidence storage is full and spread across multiple sites, while public works will also gain an administration building, though construction timelines are not yet set.
4. Turning community data into action - Health and Human Services News (missouristate.edu) — Springfield neighborhoods are becoming a test bed for a new violence-prevention effort that combines anonymous hospital data with community input to pinpoint where help is most needed. Missouri State University and Stronger Together Springfield are partnering with CoxHealth and Mercy to map assault injuries, then work with residents and local leaders on targeted strategies to make streets and gathering spots safer.
5. 'Springfield is safe'; Downtown business owners address safety concerns after Saturday morning shooting (ozarksfirst.com) — Downtown Springfield business owners say they still feel the area is safe, even after a Saturday morning shooting injured three people near Park Central Square. Workers and police describe most problems happening between 2 and 4 a.m., often involving people who know each other, while emphasizing dedicated downtown patrols and urging parents to monitor teens' late-night activities.
