U.S. Cellular today announced a $10,000 donation to Boys & Girls Clubs of Springfield to provide K-12 Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) educational opportunities to youth. It is part of a $1 million donation to 53 clubs across the country. “U.S. Cellular is committed to enhancing youth learning experiences in our local communities and proud to continue working with Boys & Girls Clubs of Springfield to invest in our future leaders,” said Nakeita Stewart, director of sales for U.S. Cellular in Missouri. “Throughout the year, we strive to provide youth with unique, interactive opportunities, which showcase real-world applications for STEM careers.”
In addition to monetary donations, U.S. Cellular associates continue to engage in ongoing volunteer opportunities that enable them to mentor and provide youth with interactive learning experiences. Some of the activities Springfield-area associates have spearheaded with the local Boys & Girls Clubs include an “Ask an Engineer” event to help students better understand the variety of STEM career paths and a Black History Month Art Contest, as well as assisting with the Club’s Games Room Festival and serving Thanksgiving dinner for the Club members.
