Half and Half has had it's share of reviews and write ups so to review it again may seem redundant, but its that good. Located on Maryland Ave in Clayton, Half and Half serves breakfast and lunch during the day, and closes its door early afternoon. The décor is simple and elegant like the food. The tables, booth, and coffee-bar stools fill up quick, so be prepared to wait if you're a late sleeper. Seldom empty are the outdoor tables where patrons can enjoy a cup of Kaldi's coffee while they wait for their meal. Weather you come early or have a longer wait for your table, the meal you can expect to get is one of the best in St. Louis.
He Says: The food is great, and the atmosphere is perfect for any morning occasion. Personal favorite is the Steak and eggs. Thick cut steak, seasoned just right, served with fried tobacco onions, two eggs, toast, and a bit of hollandaise sause. Two MUST tries- The blackberry french toast and the salmon hash. The french toast is made with brioche bread, so its sweet and and each slice is like 2 inches thick! Salmon hash is something that sounds horrible, but is 100% delicious and hearty!Only downside; if you don't get there before 9:00 be prepared to wait. Longest wait we had was one hour!
She Says: Coffee is an important part of the morning ritual and surpass the expectation of any breakfast joint. Cappuccino’s, lattes, chemex, pour overs and batch brewed coffee are just a few of the options and all are done with precision and perfection. The Blackberry Brioche French toasted is stuffed with a marscopne cream and smothered in blackberries, it is amazing. I'm always torn between that or the Clara Cakes, whole wheat pancakes, marscopne cream, granola and raspberries, its a tough decision. Nothing is bad there but a few things I'm not a fan of. I have yet to be blown away by any of the chorizo dishes, but the Salmon Hash, Veggie Hash, the donuts, the biscuits and gravy(much thinner than traditional gravy, pretty sure it's made from heavy cream) all are wonderful so I have lots to chose from and don't have to go the chorizo route. Go there with people you can share a few dishes with cause you'll want it all, and try a side car to drink, a traditional cap and espresso.
