A St. Charles-Based Community Home Leads to Newly Discovered Independence & Friendships

At age 22, Andrew and his family received unexpected news; Andrew was selected by the state of Missouri to receive funding for full-time residential care. With many diagnoses, including some on the autism spectrum, the funding helped to lead to a new life of independence friendship and opportunity.
After receiving the news of approved funding, Andrewβs parents, Diane and Rich, started researching organizations specializing in the care of adults with developmental disabilities β one of which they would eventually entrust the future of their son.

After several appointments across town, the family decided that MARF Member, Emmaus Homes Inc., located in St. Charles, Missouri, had much to offer, including a knowledgeable transition team and well-trained staff who were willing to learn sign language in order to communicate with Andrew. Most importantly, Andrew would comfortably reside in a neighborhood home in St. Charles County. He would have the chance to wave at neighbors and he would be conveniently located near shopping, restaurants and other amenities.
βAfter Andrew moved out of our family home, there was one significant difference β one that we had only dreamed about,β continued Diane. βWe were in awe when we witnessed Andrewβs newly discovered independence during our first visit to his new home, which he shares with one roommate. In just a few short weeks, at age 22, our son had grown into a thriving, happy adult.β
Andrew continues to grow. He has fostered incredible friendships and has matured in ways that continue to surprise his loved ones. Most important, Andrew is happy with his independence and friendships, and he continues to be an active member of society!
