Boone Country Garden Club Annual Members Garden Tour

The Boone Country Garden Club annual members garden tour went off without a hitch on July 6th.

Twenty seven members and two guests of the Boone Country Garden Club recently enjoyed the annual tour of five member’s gardens. Gardens ranged in style, and geography -- with 30 miles between two of the gardens.

Sharon Parsons provided a delicious breakfast, which members took on their walk around the acres of stunning compositions of trees, shrubs, and perennials. Giant hostas, weeping Japanese maples, and even vegetable gardens, were in perfect form.

Peggy Neer’s meandering perennial gardens are accented by beautiful and playful yard dΓ©cor, such as a series of oversized wooden dominoes. A uniquely designed herb garden was planted in a pyramid-shaped stack of dresser drawers. Peggy also has a certified Monarch Waystation.

Christina Stiern’s garden is comprised of evergreen trees and shrubs, accented with many perennials, such as daylilies, which were in peak bloom. The pool garden was most popular, with the natural stone surround and waterfall, and unique evergreens dotted around the perimeter.

A journey across the river took us to BK Loynes’ garden, with is small and tidy. A pond in front welcomes visitors, and in back, a large covered patio begs visitors to linger a while. We enjoyed a snack, and each other’s company, in comfortable patio chairs, pool side.

Our last stop was at Lois Kessler’s, who has a wonderful historic home on a large lot in an urban setting. We enjoyed touring the home and garden, hearing about the historical significance, and Lois’s long-time love for the home, even before she had acquired it.

The club wrapped up the tour with a meeting on Lois’s brick patio, just before the rain chased us away.Β  A lot of hard work went into each garden, and the club recognizes and appreciates the time spent!
