Community Living's Adult Recreation Services Now Offering Inclusive Programming
New Opportunities Give Adults with Developmental Disabilities the Chance to Enjoy Recreational Activities

Community Livingβs Adult Recreation Services has expanded its enrichment and leisure opportunities for adults (18 and over) to help unite individuals with and without disabilities. Adult recreation members can now take advantage of new programming that enables them to invite friends, family and other members of the community β of all abilities β to take part in inclusive yoga and self-defense class, with the hope of also adding inclusive softball in 2018.
βWeβve introduced inclusive programming with the hope of making inclusion the norm,β said Alyssa Renaud, Manager of Community Livingβs Adult Recreation Services. βThis type of recreation creates stronger communities because it encourages individuals to become more accepting and respectful of the differences that exist among them. It also helps to promote awareness and fellowship, allowing participants to learn from each other in an informal environment.β
Three inclusive yoga sessions have already taken place, and all were met with success as the course instructor offered the more than a dozen individuals in attendance with modifications for each pose. Additional yoga classes are slated for Oct. 10 and Nov. 7. Community Living hopes to expand its programming to include Inclusive softball in 2018, giving individuals with and without disabilities the chance to play in a community-based league.
