Dignity Period Spring Gala at Missouri Botanical Garden

You are invited to Dignity Period’s second annual spring gala, a special evening to report on and celebrate our success and look forward to the upcoming year. Dignity Period is a St. Louis-based not-for-profit whose mission is to keep adolescent Ethiopian girls in school by ensuring that they have access to quality menstrual hygiene products.

Menstruation is a taboo subject in Ethiopia, which can lead to fear and shame, and most girls must make do with inadequate – and sometimes unsanitary – substitutes for menstrual hygiene products. Girls often stay home from school to avoid embarrassing accidents, causing them to fall behind and even drop out.

Dignity Period believes that change can happen through a comprehensive solution to the challenges facing girls in Ethiopia. We focus on three key areas of work: Pad distribution, research and behavior change education.

The evening program includes a buffet dinner and full bar, and a silent auction of photographs by Joni Kabana. Carol Daniel, KMOX on-air host, inspirational speaker and author, will emcee the evening highlighted by stories from our special guests, Freweini Mebrahtu from the Mariam Seba Sanitary Products Factory in Mekelle, Ethiopia, Dr. Loko Abraham, Dean of the College of Health Sciences at Mekelle University, and Dignity Period co-founder, Dr. Lewis Wall.
