Following an interception by fellow freshman Clay Stulce - his second of the night off Anders - Leach led Duchesne on a 10-play scoring drive. He completed five straight pass plays, marching the Pioneers into Warriors territory, and capped the drive with a touchdown plunge from two yards out with 5:53 remaining.

Chad Sams split the uprights on the extra point, cutting into West's lead at 20-7, then squibbed the ensuing kickoff, which caused a West turnover.

But the comeback attempt was squashed when Auggie Loschen intercepted Leach on a deflected pass during the ensuing drive, leading to McCrum's field goal. Finders' interception return put the game away.
