First Savers Thrift Store in St. Charles to Open in Time for Back-to-School Season and National Thrift Shop Day
New thrift store to support community through partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Missouri
Savers, a thrift superstore chain with more than 330 locations across North America, will celebrate the opening of a new store in St. Charles on Thursday, August 6. The store will be the fourth in the greater St. Louis area and will celebrate a continued partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Missouri (BBBSEMO) during a ribbon cutting ceremony at 8:45 a.m. on the morning of the grand opening. The ceremony is open to the public and will be attended by Savers management, Mayor Sally Faith, representatives from BBBSEMO, and “Bigs” and “Littles” from the BBBSEMO program who will receive a special surprise from the store.
Savers was founded on the core principle of supporting local communities, and has embraced that value by partnering with nonprofits since 1954. The new store’s partnership with BBBSEMO, through the agency’s Clothes for Kids’ Sake program, means Savers pays the organization when you donate your goods to BBBSEMO at the store’s on-site Community Donation Center, which is now open, or have your donation picked up at your home by BBBSEMO. When members of the St. Charles community donate, they are giving their goods a second life, and helping children, teens and young adults served by BBBSEMO at the same time.
The revenue received through this partnership stays in the local community and supports BBBSEMO’s mission to build trusting and enduring relationships that encourage and support young people.

“This program offers everyone the opportunity to contribute in a meaningful way to children, teens and young adults in the greater St. Louis and St. Charles areas through the donation of their clothes and small household items,” said Becky James-Hatter, President and CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Missouri. “By visiting the store’s Community Donation Center or scheduling a home pick up, the simple act of donating reusable goods becomes an easy way to support the community.”
In addition to supporting BBBSEMO, from August 2 through 8, donations made at the Savers Community Donation Center will also go to benefit The Child Center, a local nonprofit that responds to child abuse using a supportive team approach in order to reduce the trauma caused to children and their families.

On top of the good deeds Savers brings with it to St. Charles, it also offers great deals, and there’s no better time for a thrift store to open in the community than right before the Back to School Sales Tax Holiday happening August 7-9. And if back to school shopping isn’t on the radar, the store is also opening right before National Thrift Shop Day taking place on August 17.
Savers offers a premiere thrift store experience. The store’s inventory of more than 100,000 items is carefully curated so that shoppers are provided with easy access to high-quality goods at affordable prices. Savers carries everything from clothing and accessories, to housewares and electronics. Customers will find a fresh stock of value-priced goods, including authentic vintage finds and name brand fashions, with up to 10,000 new items placed on the floor each day.
“We’ve been working incredibly hard to prepare the store for opening day and can’t wait to share all we have to offer with the St. Charles community,” said Wade Baird, Savers store manager. “We look forward to providing our customers with unbelievable deals, but we also take great pride in supporting our nonprofit partners and protecting the environment. Just about everybody likes to save money, support nonprofits, and go green, and we make it easy to do all three.”
Savers is also on a mission to create a better world through reuse by inspiring local communities to donate reusable items to local nonprofits instead of throwing them in the trash. Through its commitment to sustainability, Savers has become one of the largest recyclers of used goods in the world, keeping more than 650 million pounds of reusable items from landfills each year.
The St. Charles store and Community Donation Center, located at 1920 Zumbehl Road, will be open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. For more information, customers may contact the store directly at (636) 925-2850 or visit www.savers.com.
