Giving Gardens for Salvation Army
Boone Country Garden Club gives the gift that keeps on giving -- raised garden beds at the Salvation Army Center in O'Fallon.
On Monday, April 4, 2016, the Boone Country Garden Club (BCGC) ladies will undertake their second project for the Salvation Army in O'Fallon.
The Salvation Army grounds house the start of five raised garden beds, which BCGC will complete, by fixing the frames, layering in a newspaper and a topsoil/compost mix, followed by planting a Spring vegetable crop. Accompanying the raised beds will be five potted herb gardens. In addition, they'll refresh the foundation plantings from their first project in 2014.
After the Spring crops fizzle, a committee from BCGC will return to plant Summer vegetables. These gardens will help provide fresh produce for the Salvation Army transitional housing residents and food pantry recipients.
