Mattingly's Bar and Grill Owner Jim Mattingly Dies

He opened Mattingly's Sports Bar in St. Charles County in 2008.

The owner and founder of Mattingly's in North St. Louis County and St. Charles County, died of an apparent heart attack Sunday morning.

James "Jim" Francis MattinglyΒ was 64.

Jim and his mother Edna started Mattingly's Inn in 1971 in the City of Hazelwood onΒ Howdershell Road.Β He moved the business to Florissant some time later in 1985 after a fire destroyed the Hazelwood location. HeΒ expanded to a second location in St. Charles County, located on

A leader in the community, as well as husband, father, grandfather, brother and son; there aren't many with less than kind words to say about Jim.

He once told Patch at a past Mayors' Shamrock BallΒ he opened his restaurant as a place for all people.

"Mattingly's is for every walk of life," he said. "ThoseΒ with white and blue collars and everything in between.Β 

"I know people by their first names when they walk through my doors."

Jim's public visitation will be held at Hutchens, located atΒ 675Β Graham Rd., in Florissant onΒ Wednesday, Aug. 28,Β from 1 toΒ 9 p.m.

A funeral service will be heldΒ at North County Community Church onΒ Thursday, Aug. 29,Β at 10 a.m. The church is located atΒ 7410 Howdershell Rd., inΒ Hazelwood.

He leaves behind his wife,Β Cheryl A. Mattingly, children Kyle Mattingly,Β Stephanie Ritter, Jacquelyn Bridges, Andrea Kidd and John Eagan; as well asΒ grandchildren Madisyn, Raquel, Natalia, Brendan, Austin, Braelynn, Nollan, Rubi, Aubreigh, McKenna and Ryan.

The family asks that donations be made to the Major Case Squad, Jim's favorite charity; Major Case Squad, 700 North 5th St., Belleville, IL, 62220.
