The Travelers Protective Association Holds North Carolina Annual Convention

Organization raises funds for Scholarship Trust for the Hearing Impaired

The Travelers Protective Association (TPA), a fraternal benefit society, recently held its North Carolina annual convention where Chief Administrative Officer Albert M. Shoemaker, Jr. installed the organization’s newly elected officials. North Carolina has the second largest TPA division in the country.

An auction raised $1,460, and individual posts collectively donated more than $4,000. All monies will benefit the TPA’s Scholarship Trust for the Hearing Impaired. Established in 1975, the organization’s trust provides financial aid to those suffering from deafness or hearing impairment. Grants are used for mechanical devices, medical and specialized treatment, and education that includes speech classes and interpreters. To date the Trust has distributed over $2 million to approximately 5,000 recipients.

Founded in 1890, TPA’s national headquarters is located at 2041 Exchange Dr. in St. Charles, Mo. The association is licensed in 29 states and has over 22,000 members, which includes more than 17,000 members who have been a part of the organization for over 25 years. TPA offers fraternalism to its members, as well as participates in safety projects and community service. The association provides accident, disability and death benefits to both its members and their beneficiaries.

“It was an honor to attend the convention and to see firsthand all that the division has achieved,” said Shoemaker, Jr. “North Carolina plays an integral part in TPA’s success, and we appreciate their efforts in raising funds for our organization’s Trust.”
