Oldest Bulgarian Eastern Orthodox Church in America Hosts First Annual Ethnic Festival

Madison, IL – “Holy Trinity” Bulgarian Eastern Orthodox Church invites all parishioners, friends, and community members of the Greater Metropolitan Area and beyond to join them in the start of a new tradition: the First Annual Bulgarian Ethnic Harvest Festival!
The day-long festival will be held on October 1st from 10AM-7PM on the grounds of the historic “Holy Trinity” Church, located at the corner of 13th Street and Grand Avenue in Madison, Illinois.
The event is also a celebration of the Church’s 110th Anniversary, making “Holy Trinity” the first and oldest Orthodox Church established in the United States – and, in fact, the first established outside of Bulgaria.

There will be a variety of authentic Bulgarian dishes for sale including “spanachnik” (layers of buttered filo dough filled with Bulgarian feta and spinach), “karnacheta” (grilled Bulgarian sausages), “shopska salata” (Bulgarian specialty salad), “baklava” (layered filo dough with walnuts and cinnamon in a honey-vanilla syrup), and more!
The Bulgarian Festival will feature live music will by the popular Bulgarian folk ensemble “Kabile,” performances by the folk dance groups “BG Spirit” and “Zhiv Ogun”, and many opportunities for attendees to learn the dances themselves.

Children of all ages will enjoy several inflatables, including a bounce house and obstacle course, numerous carnival games and prizes, and various other activities, such as face-painting. There will also be an assortment of imported Bulgarian souvenirs and religious items available for purchase.
Admission to the Bulgarian Festival is free. With authentic food, music, and dancing, as well as games and activities for all age groups, there will be hours of fun for everyone. For one day, come immerse yourself in the rich culture and traditions of Bulgaria! Nazdrave! Cheers!
