The most difficult time to cope with depressive symptoms is during a depressive episode. This is where planning ahead is effective. Write down several things that promote feelings of joy for you. It does not matter how small or large these tasks may be. For example, listening to music, re-arranging your house, reading, etc. Keep this list in plain view when you begin feeling depressed.

The following are 5 things that I recommend to help cope with depressive symptoms.

1. Reach out to a friend or family member. Fight against isolating.

2. Practice deep breathing techniques, yoga or walking. .

3. Learn to practice healthy sleep habits.

4. Expose yourself to sunlight.

5. Challenge negative thoughts. Example: All or nothing thinking.
