Two SLPS high schools recognized among Missouri's best in new rankings (stlamerican.com) — Two St. Louis Public Schools magnet high schools just ranked first and second in Missouri, with Metro Academic and Classical High at No. 22 nationally and Collegiate at No. 90. The strong results come as SLPS prepares major school consolidations under its Future Ready plan, making these high-performing city options especially important for families weighing enrollment decisions.
2. Students return to Shenandoah Elementary in St. Louis while SLPS closures loom (stlpr.org) — Families at Shenandoah Elementary in Tower Grove East are savoring what could be the school's final first day as St. Louis Public Schools weighs closing several campuses. District leaders present closure recommendations Tuesday evening downtown, raising big questions about where students will go and what happens to historic neighborhood school buildings if they're shuttered.
3. St. Louis launches program to aid tornado survivors with water bills as shutoff moratorium ends (ksdk.com) — St. Louis residents in the recent tornado zone now have a new Water Affordability Program that can cut bills in half, reduce or even forgive past-due balances, and set up repayment plans as shutoffs resume. More than 3,000 delinquent accounts are already prequalified, but affected households must verify their information and apply by Oct. 31 to avoid losing water service.
4. Weather, ducklings affect MoBOT's 'Waterlily Weigh-Off' entry (kmov.com) — A giant Victoria waterlily at the Missouri Botanical Garden in St. Louis is representing the city in Denver's 2026 Waterlily Weigh-Off, supporting up to 149 pounds on a single pad. Garden staff say this year's specimen is smaller than usual thanks to weather and some hungry, sunbathing ducklings that have taken a liking to the pads.
5. Series Preview: St. Louis Cardinals Host the Baltimore Orioles (vivaelbirdos.com) — Cardinals fans in St. Louis get a crucial home series starting tonight as the team hosts the Baltimore Orioles while clinging to National League Wild Card hopes. With injuries thinning the roster and starting pitchers still unsettled, this three-game set and the following homestand against the Pirates could determine whether this young club stays in the playoff race.
