1. Urban League, law enforcement unite to tackle public safety and secure neighborhood churches (firstalert4.com) — Regional law enforcement and faith leaders met at the Urban League's St. Louis headquarters to coordinate new strategies to protect neighborhood churches and tackle gun violence, car crimes, and the opioid crisis. After a wave of break-ins and thefts at north St. Louis churches, the group is partnering with ADT and expanding church-based safety and support programs to better safeguard congregations and surrounding families.
   

2. Mayor Cara Spencer walks out of St. Louis Police Board of Commissioners community meeting (firstalert4.com) — St. Louis residents should know that Mayor Cara Spencer walked out of a quarterly Board of Police Commissioners community meeting at Harris-Stowe State University after a police media staffer began asking most of the questions. Technical audio issues limited public input, and Spencer objected to the format before leaving, while both the police department and mayor's office declined to elaborate afterward.
   

3. St. Louis Fire Department uses temporary fix for vandalized hydrants (kmov.com) — If you live in St. Louis, be aware that 77 fire hydrants citywide have been vandalized since Friday, forcing firefighters to rely on a temporary metal insert to access water. Chief Dennis Jenkerson and Mayor Cara Spencer say repairs and replacements could cost well over $250,000, and they're urging residents to report anyone seen tampering with hydrants immediately.
   

4. Adopted St. Louis man discovers his biological father is Michael McDonald (kmov.com) — A longtime St. Louis resident who always knew he was adopted recently traced his biological family and learned his father is Grammy-winning musician Michael McDonald. After DNA testing connected him with a half-brother, he reunited with his birth mother, spoke with McDonald, and eventually met him in person, deepening family ties and introducing McDonald to new grandchildren in St. Louis.
   

5. St. Louis County officer charged with filing $25K in false time sheets while working Schnucks security (ksdk.com) — St. Louis County police say a former officer is charged with stealing more than $25,000 by allegedly filing false time sheets while working secondary security at Schnucks. Investigators report that payroll discrepancies uncovered by the grocery chain led to a probe, which found overlapping hours with his police shifts and resulted in his September 18 departure from the department.
