On June 26, Blue Sky Yoga Studio will host the St. Louis debut of Dance of Life, an immersive movement experience created by New York-trained theater artist and movement facilitator Dmitrii Melnik.
Inspired by an exercise from the Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute, Dance of Life takes a Method Acting technique once reserved for professional actors and reimagines it for everyday people. Rather than stepping into the life of a character, participants are invited to step into their own story — moving through birth, childhood, love, loss, success, failure, aging, and death in a guided 90-minute journey.
For most of our lives, the mouth does all the talking. Dance of Life asks a different question: what happens when we finally let the body tell its side of the story?
Participants describe it this way: “For me, one evening of Dance of Life was more powerful than ten therapy sessions. It helped me feel something I hadn’t been able to access for years.”
The attached press release includes additional background, research references, event details, photos, and video materials.
We would be happy to arrange an interview with Dmitrii Melnik or provide additional materials if this story is of interest.
