Third Degree Glass Factory

Lines July 7-August 28 The latest exhibition at Third Degree Glass features dozens of intricate pieces by Mario Clarke, a glass artist based in Springfield, Illinois.
SAVE THE DATE Mario will be at Third Degree Glass July 17 for our monthly Third Friday event to speak about his work and lead both glassblowing demos in the hot shop. The first demo will showcase the techniques he used for his exhibition pieces. The second will be a chandelier collaboration with Third Degree Glass artists using skills from their experience in Murano, Italy, with master chandelier maker Fabiano Zanchi.
ABOUT MARIO Raised in nearby Mt. Olive, he began working with glass while studying at Illinois State University under American Studio Glass Movement artist John Miller. After earning a degree in graphic design, Mario continued his glass education through advanced study before becoming the Glass Studio Manager and Technician at the Springfield Art Association.
Mario has further developed his practice through studies at Pilchuck Glass School and professional experience in Murano, Italy, working with master chandelier maker Fabiano Zanchi. His work combines traditional Venetian cane techniques, including zanfirico and merletto, with contemporary vessel forms and sculptural elements.
Drawing from principles of line, balance, and composition, Mario creates works that exist between functional objects and sculpture. The flowing lines within his vessels twist, intersect, and diverge, reflecting the paths, relationships, and unexpected connections that shape our lives. Through intricate craftsmanship and layered patterns, he seeks to create work that rewards close observation and sparks a sense of joy, curiosity, and reflection.

Blue Strawberry

Jacob Jolliff is one of the world’s premier contemporary mandolinists. In 2011, he graduated from Berklee College of Music, having studied there on a full scholarship. The following year, in 2012, he won the USA’s National Mandolin Championship in Winfield, KS. A fixture of the bluegrass scene, he has performed and collaborated with Béla Fleck, Tony Trischka, Michael Daves, Grant Gordy, Wes Corbett, and Alex Hargreaves, to name a few. Additionally, throughout his 20s, he toured as a member of the groups Joy Kills Sorrow and Yonder Mountain String Band.
Currently, his focus is on his own ensemble, The Jacob Jolliff Band—one of the most cutting-edge progressive bluegrass groups on the scene today. They’ve released three albums, the most recent of which, “Instrumentals, Vol. 2: Mandolin Mysteries,” dropped in May 2024. The band plays a combination of complex original instrumental music and vocal repertoire that spans from trad bluegrass to unlikely pop covers. Bell-tone clarity cut with grit packs a power punch. - Rock &amp; Blues Muse Kara Grainger's music career began in a small suburban town of Sydney, Australia and since has taken her on an incredible journey around the globe. Combining slide guitar, soulful vocals and a heartfelt approach to songwriting, Kara's sound takes you up and leaves you ready for more. At the age of 16, Kara joined with her brother Mitch Grainger to form the band "Papa Lips". The band toured consistently throughout Australia and produced two studio albums that received national air play. In 2008 Kara signed to Australian label "Craving Records" and was invited to the US by producer David Kalish where she recorded her debut solo album. The recording entitled "Grand and Green River" received critical acclaim and remained in the top 30 of the Americana Charts for 38 straight weeks. Kara’s played in Northeast India for the Himalayan Blues Foundation, in Indonesia at the Jakarta International Blues Festival; in Japan, Switzerland, Belgium, Germany, France, Luxembourg and Spain. In the US, Kara has performed at 'The Portland Waterfront Blues Festival', 'Blues from the Top' in Colorado and "Austin City Limits". She has also opened the show for many extraordinary acts including Peter Frampton, Buddy Guy,Taj Mahal and Jonny Lang.

Join us for a night of music dedicated to launching the next generation of artists and musicians in North County. Our third in the “Stardust Serenade” series, this year’s concert, titled “Taking Flight,” will feature songs from pop music, the classical world, and Broadway. The stage will be filled with soloists, a full chorus, and string orchestra comprised of current and former members of the Ferguson-Florissant School District. Since our first concert in 2022, the “Stardust Serenade” concerts have raised more than $20,000 for the Mary and Ike Eichenberger Music Scholarship as well as the Music Departments of the Ferguson-Florissant School District.
