Dr. Chris Ivanoff joins the St. Louis Dental Center

He is an innovator in dental education and pioneer in curricular methodologies

The St. Louis Dental Center, an innovative partnership of A.T. Still University-Missouri School of Dentistry & Oral Health (ATSU-MOSDOH) and Affinia Healthcare, is pleased to welcome Dr. Ivanoff to the team. The announcement was made by Dwight E. McLeod, DDS, MS, dean, ATSU-MOSDOH, who is responsible for student learning and curriculum at the St. Louis Dental Center.

Dr. Chris Ivanoff, DDS, has been appointed professor and comprehensive care unit director at ATSU-MOSDOH. Previously, he was an associate professor for the Department of Bioscience Research and director of global outreach at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center - College of Dentistry. Prior to his appointment in St. Louis, he was Director of Global Initiatives at the Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor, University of Tennessee Health Science Center, Health System Affairs & Governmental Relations.

Dr. Ivanoff is an honorary professor at The Medical University of Sofia in Sofia, Bulgaria, and is conferred with the degree of doctor honoris causa at the Medical University of Plovdiv, Plovdiv, Bulgaria. He received his bachelor of science degree in biochemistry and molecular biology from Harvard University and his doctor of dental surgery degree at Case Western Reserve University - School of Dental Medicine, Cleveland, Ohio, where he also served as assistant professor and clinical instructor in restorative and general dentistry in the Department of Comprehensive Care.

With a previous private practice in the Greater Cleveland area for thirty-two years, Dr. Ivanoff became known as an innovator in dental education. He has pioneered several curricular methodologies to teach pain management, suspected child abuse and neglect, and cultural competency training to predoctoral dental students.

He founded the Global Oral Health Initiative to advance global dentistry and philanthropy in dental education. As a researcher and pioneer of AC electrokinetics and drug delivery in dentistry, Dr. Ivanoff received several awards for inventing the “Methods and Systems Combining AC Electroosmosis with Dielectrophoresis to Enhance Delivery of Active Agents into Intraoral Structures,” and he is the principal inventor of the “Wireless Patch System for Transdermal, Transmucosal and Dental Electrical Drug Delivery.”
